TABLE OF CONTENTS
I. LECTURES
➼ Double Exposure
Double
exposure refers to merging multiple images, they usually feature silhouettes.
There are many ways to work with these:
1. Using the tilt shift effect,
2. Fake reflection,
3. Black & White filters,
4. Using silhouettes and shadows, etc.
Blending modes are also heavily
relied, it is an experimental process, because you could not predict
the end result accurately. In this lecture, Mr. Fauzi shared quite a
few commonly used blending modes, which are darkening, lightening, and
contrast.

II. TUTORIAL
In this week, we were tasked to photoshop a character
into an imaginary background, which after that we will be editing our
own picture into the same background.

III. PRACTICAL
For the task we do on this week, we edited Shazam into
a background called Hearst Mansion, we have to work with shadows,
reflections, and adjustment layers so that our editing will look more
natural. Firstly, I worked on cutting out the characters
first.

Figure 3.1: Masking Shazam (25/10/2024).
|
Then, I placed Shazam in a place where I think fit
the most for its pose, leaning towards its back. I proceed to edit
it with image adjustments (hue/saturation, brightness/contrast,
etc.), using the noise filter so it would blend up nicely with the
background. Also, adding some shadows so that it could be more
realistic.

Mansion (25/10/2024).

And this is the final result:

Mansion (25/10/2024).
|
|
For the continuous task, we were told to use our
own pictures which then me and my friends took photos of each
other with a camera. I prepared quite a few pieces so that I could
prepare in case something unexpected happens.

|
|
I proceed to mask my photos out similar to Shazam,
and moved them into the Hearst Mansion directly, I wanted my result
to be more special, so I put more than 1 of myself in the image. I
experimented of putting an image big enough, different to others,
but I think it won't be suitable for the task.

|
Figure 3.6: Experimental layout 1 (26/10/2024).
|
|
I used another layout, without me running in front, but I
somehow feels it is quite out of place and not realistic:
|
Figure 3.7: Experimental layout 2
(26/10/2024).
|
|
From our lecture, I figured that the opacity of our
reflections cannot be reduced. Because logically, our reflections are
not transparent. The pose of me peeking is also a bit unrealistic, it
doesn't fit with the real human proportions. I also added some small
details lighting and shadows.

So, this is the fixated version:

IV. REFLECTIONS
Before
we learned this, we normally only see photo editing like these done by
professionals without knowing the process. Now when we do it hands-on, I
really feel like we're one step closer into becoming those professionals
out there. It's been a week since we studied in this module, and the
first time I came, I still don't have any basic knowledge abode Adobe,
but now, I'm already getting a grasp at the basics.
Also, many tools lately have been
refined by AI, for example in Photoshop is the select subject tool, auto
color correction, etc. This will allow us to focus more on designing,
rather than doing traditional repetitive editing, hence making our work
more efficient compared to those who studied before AI came. We're not
getting replaced by AI, rather we have to embrace them as our tools to
move forward.
Your attention is valued, thank you for reading until the end!
