PROJECT 1

REFLECTIVE WRITING

As I started my journey in this module, I realized that my initial assumptions about we could do professional work without utilizing Adobe tools was wrong. Adobe has been in the industry standard for decades. Hence, every designer to-be must have the ability and skillsets to use it.

Even though the transition from a theory into a practical application is very challenging (like when using the pen tool is not precise enough, lacking control of the lasso tool, wrong masked areas, and many more), we still have to go through these difficulties to build our skills and gain confidence to create professional-level designs in the future. These technical skills require a lot of practice and patience. So, I needed to push myself harder because I started out from scratch without any basic knowledge about these applications.

Take our task that did adjustment layers for example, learning that was very exhausting. When I got into it for the first time, I knew that it requires a great amount of experience to get the right balance. I also learned a lot about layers and grouping, it's very important to do this so that we can organize our more complex designs later on.

Despite the challenges, I became fond of these design tools over time because of its versatility. Compare it to back then, where designs require traditional arts, using painting brushes and canvases, or just compare our first task physical collage to the second task digital collage, today's technology has evolved into another level, offering flexibility in making our designs. With just a few clicks, we can experiment as much as we want, make precise adjustments, undo mistakes easily and create complex compositions that of course will be far less effective by hand. The AI tools in photoshop are also helping me a lot in my work like the select subject and object feature, so that I could focus more on the creative aspects rather than the time-consuming repetitive tasks.

In summary, this project has created a strong fundamental in design for me. With every week passed, I became more confident and proficient in doing the tasks and I'm excited to learn more about the creative tools and technology that will further enhance me as a designer!
